Not sure about the current situation, but when I last tried, using UEFI boot support within Virt-Manager on an Ubuntu host required some tweaking to overcome AppArmor issues. Here's a thread discussing some workarounds: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2292667

Among other reasons, booting a VM using UEFI boot support helps overcome some issues when passing through a GPU using VFIO.

It seems it mostly relevant about windows, eh? Oh, sure, I would expect microsoft to vendorlock on another piece of crap from wintel alliance aka UEFI. For me it is a good reason not to touch both with 10' pole.
