Phoronix: 12 Years After Launch, The GeForce 6 Can Still Run On Modern Linux Distributions

For those not following me on Twitter, the past week I've been busy running a huge OpenGL performance comparison (with performance-per-Watt metrics) on basically every NVIDIA GeForce GPU I have available going back to the GeForce 6 days up through the GeForce GTX 900 series and GTX TITAN X...

Phoronix, Linux Hardware Reviews, Linux hardware benchmarks, Linux server benchmarks, Linux benchmarking, Desktop Linux, Linux performance, Open Source graphics, Linux How To, Ubuntu benchmarks, Ubuntu hardware, Phoronix Test Suite

Any chance of seeing a similar test on the NVIDIA Quadro line at least at the lower end, 4XX, 6XX and maybe even the 12XX cards?

Unfortunately, no. NVIDIA has never sent out Quadro samples to Phoronix so am unable to run any tests there (At leas though they send out all the desktop products).

Yes, NVIDIA Quadro and AMD FirePro comparison tests would be nice.

All the FirePro cards AMD sent me are old pre-GCN ones... And too bad none from NVIDIA.

... unless your DE is plasma 5. Then it's a visual glitch fest!

Not complaining though; it used not to display windows at all a while ago. That's with nouveau, by the way. Using proprietary drivers results in a near-frozen screen — think sloth speed.

              Tested with Manjaro 15.12.

Will you follow this up with a 12 yo AMD(ATI) card that continues to run on modern Linux distributions?

No, because as mentioned I couldn't even run the HD 2000 series without failure (the ring 0 stalls) with open-source driver and Catalyst legacy doesn't work on modern distros.

Amd should be ashamed. Despite idiots trolling and being more pathetic than a vegan, Nvidia respects Linux users more than any company out there.
