They already said 4.5 won't be in 16.04.0.

This is madness. Linux 4.5 will likely be released around mid-march. Ubuntu 16.04 is due for April 21. The gap is way too small to bump the kernel, especially since 16.04 is an LTS release.

the 4.5 RC1 has been issued 24 of january. Do you think that 4.5 final release will be issued on mid of march!?

4.4 is a LTS kernel so it fits well with LTS ubuntu.

Yep, that would align with the typical 9 week cycle we've been seeing -- 2 weeks to rc1, then 7 more weeks to release.

IIRC our internal planning assumes March 13 for 4.5 and May 15 for 4.6.

A bit late to reply to this. Linux 4.5 is now at the RC7 stage and should be released on Sunday the 13th of March. So yes, I did think and still "think that 4.5 final release will be issued on mid of march" .

As bridgman said, the release schedule tends to be quite consistent and predictable: When the merge window closes, RC1 is released, and from then on, a new RC is released every week, usually until reaching RC7. Then the final kernel is released one week later. More RCs can be released if there are important issues, or during holidays periods (it happened for 4.4 for example).
