Phoronix: Another Intel Motherboard Has Been Set Free All The Way Down To The BIOS By Libreboot

This morning was news about Libreboot supporting another AMD server motherboard. Another motherboard -- this time an Intel board -- was added today since then to this Coreboot downstream that initializes the hardware without any proprietary firmware/microcode...

Don't mind hardware that's dated by today's standards? It's an Atom board... it was crap in 2009 when it was new. The platform was fine for compact low-powered netbooks - I still have one that sees intermittent use when travelling - but in a desktop form, it was a waste of time seven years ago.

Umm, another intel one. Okay, yes, AMD server board. But both are already hard to obtain and especially this Atom boards seems overpriced (princing looks like an industrial board). Sadly, if one reads the libreboot pages, one will notice all the little blobs intel used for many years and sadly AMD is using in a lot of recent APUs.
I wonder why that has to be. 3rd party IP?

Really sad is the lack of alternatives; ARM is NOT an alternative since it is just a design scheme and still varies from implementation to implementation and left and right from the CPU part it's a single blob landscape; maybe this Loongson is (iirc MIPS), Stallman uses it but it's probably available nowhere and probably okay perfomance for office tasks but if you need more or want to run software that is not ported... uhoh.
Stop TCPA, stupid software patents and corrupt politicians!
