What other components need to commit libglvnd patches before this becomes "automatically" picked up by users and distros?

Nice, what drivers are currently capable of using this?

Let me see if I understand what this GLVND thing is a standard way to handle having multiple GPUs from different vendors in the same system, and not having them conflict with one another, right?

          - Could it be used to have, say, both AMD's fully opensource stack and hybrid stack installed at the same time, for different GPUs?
          - Could it be used to have, say in an intel/nvidia environment, to have both cards available for output, while providing seamless integration between them? Meaning that you could freely move windows between displays attached to the intel GPU to the nVidia GPU?
          - Could it be used to make the whole Optimus/Endurp thing less of a pain?
