Looks like something went wrong with the release of this driver.

I bumped the version numbers in the PKGBUILDs on Arch to build the new driver package, but it downloads the 364.19.run file and then does --extract-only, but the extraction creates a 364.16 directory and all the lib inside have version 364.16.

EDIT: Fixed. Used the wrong link to fetch the installer.

Isn't this basically useless unless you are ready and able to compile wayland&weston from source with NVIDIA's changes? How can you use this driver if there's no compositor to support it?

Its useless at this point. There are 3-4 (??) compositors available and they only have patches for weston which is an experimental thing not supposed to be used as a desktop.

        Its stupid.

And it seems that no one of these compositors will introduce the support of NVIDIA driver for technical reasons...

Well looking through the mailing list from the first talk of the Nvidia stuff, it looks like the Wayland folks are saying not only will the Nvidia way be extra work for them, also for each compositor and in many cases for native Wayland applications. I really hope the community stands strong on this. If AMD is able to get their open source driver situation in order before Nvidia sorts this out, we may see some major changes in the open source ecosystem.

Agreed, there really shouldn't be two systems here. Unless using the EGLStreams (or whatever it's called) make it faster and cleaner than GBM, they shouldn't budge.

Reddit has started to copy your articles words for words, paste them in their own subs and remove all links to your website. It seems to be done by a bot ran by some admin on /r/linux. https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gamin...isplay_driver/

We've already told them how unfriendly this was but they do not care about it. They probably think that phoronix isn't worth linking to but they don't refuse the additional free traffic they get from you.

                  What do you mean?
AFAIK both the radeon and the radeonsi driver are KMS capable (because the kernel part is common), so they should be already in "order", specially with radeonsi cards, where the OpenGL 4.3 games will be available on the free driver as soon as the new mesa version will be out.
But also for the closed userspace driver, because the KMS part is shared with the open side, it should work with wayland out of the box, I guess.

Actually work is being done on Fedora to make mutter work with the NVIDIA's implementation of Wayland : https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Wayla...driver_support

But yeah I hope both Wayland and NVIDIA folks come around a common solution. Apparently neither GBM and EGLStreams satisfy everyone's need so maybe something new will have to be done in this regard (Android's hwc was mentioned several times in the mailing list as a possible solution to use or get inspiration from).
