Well done to all the teams (Intel, Igalia etc) and individuals involved.

As the article clearly states, the drivers in mesa's git master support OpenGL 4.3.

The latest release version, i.e. mesa 11.2, doesn't support OpenGL 4.3 though. But that would have been also easy to deduct from this article.

            > The latest release version,

why would someone expect an already released version to have an upgrade in features automagically ? Once it's released, it's old.

Because it doesnt support, thats why. It is supported on newest gen only, haswell still doesnt have it, and it is by far more important because much more users has it. More proper name for article would be that mesa has experimental support for opengl 4.3 or that skylake supports its, not the whole intel.

You are right, Haswell would be a much nicer target for OpenGL 4.3. Basically somebody could test some games that check for OpenGL 4.x and add overrides to drirc to make em work with older Ivy Bridge/Hawell systems.

Can you please elaborate why number of users is a valid metric in this case? Also, please provide some use cases for 4.3 on Intel that make your reaction sound so negative (at least to me).

Maybe I remember incorrectly, but wasn't one of the results of the "4.5 or bust" discussion that 13.0 might be branched and released ahead of the normal 3 month schedule - basically as soon as GL 4.5 is reached on all relevant platforms?
