I still wonder why Plasma eats memory like crazy.

This is a new session with zero applications or plasmoids running.

Over 600MB of RAM eaten: http://i.imgur.com/7ZuZYyL.png

KDE developers simply don't care - of course, they usually have at least 16 gigs of RAM.

Edit: for all those crazy geniuses below: I ran `echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches' before taking this screenshot, which means 600MB of RAM are occupied and cannot be removed from main system memory. Not a chance. And I didn't pay attention to the VIRT column, idiots. If I had counted it, I would have come with 5GB of RAM occupied. In short, you're all bloody stupid trolls who don't understand shit about memory management. Now f*ck off.

Edit 2: For blind and retarded people, let me repeat "ZERO plasmoids running". In fact download http://files.kde.org/neon/images/neo...le-current.iso and test it yourself.

Uh... I don't get that issue and never have. I've been using KDE for about 4 years now and plasma never takes up that much memory. It's probably just a specific plasmid. If it's a 3rd party one, then the KDE devs have no obligation to fix that leak. Also, unless you actually posted a bug report, of course they're not going to care about something that isn't brought to their attention.

Apparently you are not able to read. Your own screenshot lists ~300 MB used, plus ~300 MB buffer/cache.

Any sizes in the "VIRT" column are irrelevant for actual memory usage, as this also includes any memory mapped files, shared libraries, unused heap space, shared buffers (e.g. pulseaudio buffers).

600mb is to much this days? I don't agree

Is it possible to have Qt 5.5 and 5.6 on the same machine? Apparently 5.6 corrects a lot of bugs, so I wonder if Kubuntu devs will backport Qt 5.6 to Xenial via PPA.

After more than 10 years and it still looks like shit, as always.

Well, I'm using stock Kubuntu 16.04 in a Thinkpad T430, and Plasma is at ~90MB. But what is really eating my RAM is a bug in mysqld that inflates it to 800MB or so, in both this note and my desktop at home.

                    EDIT:
The msqld is a known bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...i/+bug/1576930

So I removed Akonadi (didn't need it anyway) and Amarok, because it has a bug with the playlist anyway, and Mysql. Using qmmp as a substitute (with the Simple User Interface) and now things are back to normal.
