One interesting question is how much of the "drop in Linux gamers" is actually "increase in SteamOS gamers" since AFAIK the latter are not included in survey results.

I've got the survey twice on my Linux machines and never on my Windows game box. Don't start this BS again.

So people get this servey and fill it out?
I never seen it, why does it need user interaction?

Click on the "OS Version". They have a big problem with arithmetics:

            Windows 95.50% +0.08%
            OSX 3.60% 0.00%
            Linux 0.80% -0.04%

Yes, I participated in survey yesterday. And this was the first time since my registration in 2014.

The survey seems to favor new installs, I usually get it only on new linux installs and my arch install is like 18 months old now thus I haven't seen it in at least a year.

In other news apparently Desktop Linux is now 2%

I love it every time some Linux hater uses incomplete usage statistics to make belligerent remarks without considering the details.

These month per month results are in area of error , they should do these surveys quarterly maybe.

I registered 11 or 10 years ago. It appeared only once for me on Linux and a few times on windows, even though I've spent more time on Linux when I used to dual boot. I don't like this research at all.
Logically they have other methods to analyze data. They know number of Linux gamers is actually increasing. That's why we see more and more games for Linux.
