Phoronix: NVIDIA Posts Patches For Mesa, But Just For Wiring Up An EGL Extension

It's not often we get to talk about NVIDIA developers making open-source contributions to Mesa... After all, their contributions to the Nouveau driver tend to be limited just to the Nouveau DRM/KMS kernel driver and even there seeing patches from the green giant tend to be very infrequent. The latest Mesa patches from NVIDIA aren't even tied to Nouveau but just for wiring up an EGL extension...

vendor neutral library created by nvidia for their proprietary driver... that is really "vendor neutral"

Well, libglvnd is open-source and can be adopted by any driver. It is actually vendor neutral and the best (since there is zero alternative) to something we should have probably have had from the beginning.

Can you please elaborate which part of the functionality you consider NVIDIA blob only?

it wasnt just done by NVIDIA, the idea was from them, but it was discussed a lot of times with mesa guys , and it reached a consensus, its vendor agnostic, it leads to better managment and not breaking things, you should really read about it.

NVIDIA cant even do a good thing and these idiots/trolls will keep spreading shit about it.

That's how it is around here.

Even the product announcement threads are just filled to the brim with haters.

The problem with the forum software is that there is no "down" vote option. If there was, the trolls would eventually stop posting antagonistic pieces.

The problem with that is that, for all that they come across as brain-dead morons, trolls are remarkably devious when it comes to exploiting voting systems...

I ask you this, why does trolls offend you?
Opinions and arguments are going to be biased, but I will always think that we will be civil about it (and go back to the facts and prove that the argument anyone does is true).
Trolls just feeds on attention and as everyone knows time is money (you only have so much time and energy to argue about one thing).

This is just stupid, voting systems can be abused in the most in the most common way, groups of idiots band up and "silence" the post/forum. Let's just all agree that we are mature and civil about everything that is happening in the forums.
