    /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask:
    # Pacho Ramos <pacho - gentoo.org> (21 Aug 2016)
    # Unmaintained, pending major version bump, doesn't integrate well with
    # portage, bug #477798. Removal in a month.

    Just sayin'.
Stop TCPA, stupid software patents and corrupt politicians!

I think with the type of platform phoronix test suite is, it should just focus on being a runnable from git-tree program and completely avoid installation and thus packaging.

Then any distro packaging goes away. It does make sense to pay attention to the security vulnerability the distro people have outlined but at the same time, the people running these programs are a limited few and the program is not compiled.

What security vulnerability distro people have outlined?

Michael this is their core gripe for security: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugr...cgi?bug=717536 - I don't think they understand that pts can't predict deps a benchmark will use either - they want you to depend all on the packages top level.

Right. And PTS will never depend upon the system packages (except for the test profiles explicitly testing system packages) since if wanting to compare the x264, Xonotic, Apache, etc, performance across distros who knows what compiler flags / version / patches / etc vary across distros and what not. So the only real way to be accurate is by using the same source package on every platform. And I really don't view it as much of a security issue as people shouldn't be like modifying PTS to run Apache or OpenSSL in production but are just fired up for a ~minute locally and aren't installed system-wide, etc. It's all contained and used just for benchmarking.
