With ZFS now being so well supported on Linux, would there be any reason to build a NAS using FreeBSD or a Solaris-based distro?

That all depends on if you want an all in one distro where you do not care about the underlying OS and just the functionality.

        Interesting news...

Any chance we'll see it included in the next round of FS benchmarks?

EXT4/XFS/F2FS/BTRFS/ZFS on a single SSD & HDD?... A three-way BTRFS/ZFS/Linux comparison covering the most common RAID modes would be interesting too.. of course.. on both SSDs & HDDs again, naturally

Should keep the boredom at bay for a while

last time I looked encryption isn't well supported in ZFS.

Yeah, it's under heavy development right now:

            https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/pull/4329 ZFS Encryption

the other interesting feature is compressed ARC and the ABD changes

https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/pull/5078 Compressed ARC, Compressed Send/Recv, ARC refactoring
https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/pull/3441 ABD: linear/scatter dual typed buffer for ARC (ver 2)

Not to forget @ryao's API stabilization patches:

https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/pull/3907 Initial stable API + ClusterHQ libzfs_core extensions + various fixes

Thanks for the post save & restore feature, Michael, just saved me lots of typing after a tab crash in chromium (actually I wouldn't have restarted this post without it )

Official website hasn't been updated though, neither have the PPA.

                What's ARC, ABD, and Send/Recv to/from where?

Anyone want to do a bit of advocacy and tell me why I should prefer OpenZFS over BTRFS?
