Postgresql really has the potential to become the Linux of databases. There is such frustration with Oracle's price gouging and onerous licensing conditions that many are eagerly awaiting an open source proposition that can compete both on features and on performance. Postgresql already has the features and now with parallel queries and JIT support, it's making big progress on the performance front as well.

any word on when this can be mainlined? does it require a new release cycle, or can it be added on top of the next one? would really love to try it out
