That Pixel name seems rather unfortunate considering Google's coming smartphone rebranding.

Exact: Why not wayland? Why don't group the task force to LXDE? +1 Why not LXQt ?

I actually think it's more appropriate name because it has Pi in the name. As others have commented Google moving to Pixel branding just doesn't fit.

LXDE is dead. They should move to XFCE.

Ahh cool - a new shiny toy!

It will be interesting to see where they go with this.

It would be rather cool if they start work on a wayland DE though, they could be an interesting force in the Linux world

It is nowhere to go, new default theme... and something that support all-Pis, even oldest one with 256 MB.

I guess it is hard to support low memory systems with new bloatware wirdgets/etc...
