In that case "no new source packages" doesn't exclude the "linux-image" package from getting a version update ?

Has it changed again? I'd be interested in reading any source for that! I've read elsewhere that perhaps 4.9 won't be LTS, but no firm sources.

Yeah, but for no only unfortunately. Gnome will see a new release by the end of March [1], and Debian Stretch will surely be released way after that. Anyway, I remain optimistic, IIRC, with Jessie it was a bit worse!

I just hope Stretch does away with running by default all the extra services, even on a minimal install, that may not even be needed except in specific cases. I think the alpha installers showed they were no longer doing this. Minimal really should be minimal, so hope it keeps moving in that direction. Same for RHEL 8 as well, they need to do this, but latest Fedora server installs seem to do so, so looking possibly good. Maybe people are starting to figure it out. If some other optional software has a dependency on some other service, install/enable it then. Don't run all these things "just in case", install/enable on an add-needed basis. My opinion.

Starship. That's nice for the other desktops as around 60% really cares about them. What matters are the sane defaults which get the right level of QA. Gnome 3.22 is a very polished release, just as KDE 5.8 that is also LTS. RHEL 7 will also update to Gnome 3.22, but who cares about RHEL as it will run on a server without a GUI anyway.
