Phoronix: It's Now Easier Trying Firefox Wayland Support On Arch Linux & Flatpak Distributions

A Phoronix reader has taken to improving the situation around being able to deploy Mozilla's Firefox web-browser natively on Wayland, particularly for Arch Linux distributions as well as those distributions supporting both Wayland and Flatpak...

If QT 5.8 wouldnt have completely broke wayland on plasma 5, I would try it.
But anyway, it would probably not work at all on plasma 5. This is because recent versions of GTK3 doesnt work on Kwin on Wayland (gtk switched to a newer version of xdg shell and dropped support for the older version, the one than kwin supported)

The flatpack image is a debug build.

What about Chromium? Are their any native builds on Wayland yet? I might give this Firefox a go if its noticeably more responsive.

          Nice work.
I wonder why Red Hat is patching Firefox for Wayland? Aren't there no resources on Mozilla?

A patch was recently merged into Firefox, but generally speaking my understanding is that development of Wayland for Firefox has been going very slow.

The Firefox built mentioned in this article is a debug build. So it might not be fast.

Chromium works natively on Wayland. Just install it from AUR.

Strange how Firefox seems to work on Wayland. The past few weeks people on here were saying that Firefox wouldn't run on Wayland at all but it seems like it's possible somehow after all...
