Good news. However, recent versions of VirtualBox are quite unstable in my experience, so I'm looking for an alternative.

QEMU/KVM works just fine with virt-manager.

Yeah, KVM/virt-manager is a very nice project, but it doesn't have a 3D acceleration (virgl is still unusable). As far as I can remember, it doesn't support snapshots. A proper support of OVF is lacking too. The GUI is not on par with VirtualBox. Gnome Box looks better, but it lacks some features.
I have also tried VMWare Player, and it feels so heavy.

if this happens, I could probably enable CONFIG_TRIM_UNUSED_KSYMS in my kernel

Does this mean when running Linux as a VirtualBox guest we can now use Wayland? That would be awesome. Maybe this addresses something else, but if fixed that would be very cool.

                  It's supported snapshots since 1.0: http://blog.wikichoon.com/2014/03/sn...t-manager.html

The rest of your criticisms may still be valid, but haven't bothered me.

Huh, I thought it was already mainline...
The host driver, on the other hand, would be nice to have upstream.
