So the grass I'm seeing now is not correct? I just fired up the game to check and it didn't look wrong to me. I'm using Padoka's packages from 5 days ago.

I didnt think mesa did per application patches - which is why airlie's branch for Doom 2016 wont be mainlined?

The Doom changes were just mainlined - http://www.phoronix.com/vr.php?view=Doom-Fix-Mesa-Git

But yes they do per-application/game workarounds when handled via flags and then matching the game's name via drirc data.

Is there a before/after image for comparison? Principally for those like me, who doesn't own the game but would like to compare the results

Well the grass looks funny on mesa, I had an nvidia 750 and the grass looks better, when i swap to rx480 the grass looks like a fake one, but that is nothing I care too much. You can check when you start the game the grass looks like old graphics.

This rule (which they now broke) was only there for Vulkan drivers, because they know from OpenGL that they really want to avoid this.
For OpenGL drivers this was already happening for a very very long time.

You can check my bug report here, if you want to see the difference: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=100070

Its of course no blocker. The fact, that not many noticed it, is however no reason to not fixing that.
Ideally the goal for Linux and opensource world is to provide an equal or even better playing experience.

I still hope that the porter will fix the game and implement proper OpenGL behavior.

it would be easier to see difference if you add red circle around it

It is indeed rendered wrong. The grass far away has lots of dark artifacts which shouldn't be here.
Random picture of the menu rendered correctly found on google: http://www.supersoluce.com/sites/def...-principal.jpg
