Any one know the progress of Wayland in this, I'm sure I remember Martin saying they were going to have to change the code in Plasma Kwin because of the changes

Doesn't look like it. Here is changes has been integrated into dev: https://codereview.qt-project.org/#/...branch:dev,n,z and
these are the bug fixes in 5.9: https://codereview.qt-project.org/#/...branch:5.9,n,z

Seems to be a slow moving module, with some 10+ changes per month.

As far as I understand it, they have already made changes on the KDE side, but a have few quirks that remains unsolved. The problem was kwin tried to fit QtWayland into a model that didn't quite work and was relying on undocumented behavior that broke in 5.8.

Just a warning, make damn sure your distro is explicitly supported on that online installer, it mostly works fine most of the time for windows or Mac but on linux distros outside RedHat/Ubuntu LTS can become a nightmare pretty damn fast and in many cases simply brake KDE or other Qt apps, so be careful how you use it

Aside from the known regressions, it works fine for me on Solus.
