Is it possible to create a configuration with all settings set to their recommended default value *and* to compile everything possible as modules?

Can anybody explain why the up-to-date frequency of the processor will no longer be shown in /proc/cpuinfo? It was quite handy to debug buggy DELL BIOS's ;-)

Edit: The answer lies at [1]. And the old value, if needed, at [2].

          [1] git.kernel.org
          [2] /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/policy<n>/scaling_cur_freq
