Phoronix: Linux 4.14 Will Indeed Be A Long-Term Support Release

While it was already widely expected that Linux 4.14 would be the "2017 Linux LTS kernel", Greg Kroah-Hartman reaffirmed the decision today...

Would be nice to see Ubuntu 18.04 with Linux 4.14! I remember when Ubuntu 14.04 was released with Linux 3.13, what a mess... It had many problems, a big one was only fixed later on with Linux 3.19 (LP#1362755).

Excellent, the first kernel to have all Cherry Trail support! This will probably get picked up by Google and thus hopefully we can have a working Android x86 on it.

          No. 4.15 at the earliest.

I have been trying to understand the potential for backporting the DC/DAL stuff to 4.14, as it is obviously of interest to LTS releases with a five year horizon that obviously won't want to be absent that support in 2020+. SLES/Leap 15, and Ubuntu 18.04 spring to mind.

It is obviously an order of magnitude more complex than backporting AMD Polaris support to 4.4 ready for the release of Suse Leap 42.3, but maybe...?
