I don't care about raid or performance. I care about PRICE.
Also, it has to have mainline linux drivers. No binary blobs. It has to work out of the box.

Just a straight controller with 8 channels is going to next to impossible to find. Most will have raid capabilities and as such cost a bit more. You might want to look at the RocketRaid 2320. Keep in mind that most of the cards you will find with that connectivity will more then likely require a PCI-X slot or a 4x PCI-e slot. There are also a few others at Adaptec.Quote:

If performance is not so important, get a Silicon Image 4-port card and a 5x SATA Port Multiplier.
