I find it terribly amusing (and somewhat frightening) that even though the two American parties (Rep/Dem) are basically identical in their politics, a lot of people still assign them ideologies and labels such as "liberal" or "conservative". Newsflash: they are neither! Sure, there are some differences, but it's all in the nuances and details, not in the ideology. If you stop and think a little, you can realize that only two parties would never be able to encompass the enormous diversity of a country that covers half a continent. So what do they do? They compromise, of course. Their policies are a mish-mash of various (and sometimes antagonic) points of view that have only one thing in common -- they exist to help them get elected and stay in office. End of story. If anyone thinks that Obama's or Cain's or whoever's discourse is a sincere expression of their beliefs and ideology, instead of a carefully crafted marketing speech, they are, to put it mildly, quite naive.

Neither do the Reps supporting the free market; however, you could also say they are both liberal to a certain degree (depends on which half of the glass you consider).
Meanwhile, both parties are working tirelessly to impose an over-reaching and all-powerful government which would be in nobodies interest but theirs -- but somehow people are more concerned over healthcare and immigration... oh, please wake up!
I disagree, completely actually. You can call a mouse a horse, but in the end a mouse is really a mouse.

In my eyes that is polar opposites. Now you can feel free to pull in ideologies from other regions of the world if you so choose, however that doesn't concern us in the US. You see why is because we only have two major political parties. Any other ideology is moot and has no effect on our political dilemmas whatsoever.
You want to talk about Democracy, it is firmly rooted in our government, and nobody will ever be able to change that. Not even the democrats. Thats why social democracy is a given,. and need not be questioned. Still they do there damned to take away free will at every point and give it over to the government. We actually have a fairly decent hybrid government that covers social requirements, as well as civil requirements fairly well. The democrats will never have enough power to change that. The problem is that they can still tip the scales one way or the other.
I firmly believe that every social program should be outlawed and abolished immediately. Every man should earn his own way, and provide for his family. In todays day and age that isnt possible for a large percentage of our country due simply, and strictly to the shear cost of the social programs that our government funds using our tax money. Anyhow I can keep going on and on, and can give example after example where free markets win, and social markets fail.
Read that link. Take a good hard look. That is my home town, and it was once a world leader in steel production. In it's hay day it was one of the wealthiest regions in the world. Not anymore, and is the --perfect-- example of where social markets fail, and free markets thrive. As soon as the government killed our steel, and replaced it with a government run social market we have now become one of the poorest regions in this country. What the hell? Most people in this town were born on the Welfare system, and will never hold a long term job ion there lives. They will never have to buy food, or pay a utility bill. They will never have to buy a house, or a car. They get thousands of dollars every month given to them, and the more kids they have the more money they get.
And you know who pays for it? Me. I do. And it really pisses me off.
Is that the way Democrats envisioned there perfect society? I think we were better off before.
