Something is rather odd about the 2 GB IOZone results... for the latest kernels, the write throughput is nearly 2x the read throughput?
In what world do you live in that hard disks can write data...
Interesting results, though it's not clear to me whether the Java performance in Linux is better because the Linux Java engine is better, or because system resource overhead to run Ubuntu is...
There are a number of browser benchmarks with established track records... what does this test suite do new to add to the party?

I'm probably coming in too late into this discussion, but it seems to me that one test with 'real-world' utility would be to measure the load (CPU and RAM) imposed on a system playing Flash videos on...
Both ask for the size, which is the size of the file being tested. I was asking about the 'record size' parameter.
However, your tip about the CLI did lead me to the answer. The command line...
Does anyone know what the 'record size' parameter was set to for the IOzone tests? I'm running a mini-comparison of different file systems on an external HD... I'm running iozone directly and would...

I'd love to see in the test suite a benchmark to measure Flash video playback performance and resource consumption (CPU and RAM) using the Adobe Flash plugin (for Linux, Windows, etc.). I doubt it...
Upon reflection, I decided against starting a PTS Live CD torrent. My upload speed isn't very high, and my PC isn't kept on all the time. It would probably be more frustrating to get it off an...

You're probably right... the bottleneck is more likely to be the CPU or the GPU than the rate at which data is read off the hard drive, esp. on my laptop (~2 GHz Turion64 X2, GeForce Go 6150) trying...
OK, it took most of this morning, but I managed to download the PTS Desktop Live .iso -- passed the checksum, making the Live USB stick shortly.
The remaining questions are: Should I -- and do I...
