How was/is Gears of War ( UT3 engine ) ported to the mac? Was there overlap work done by our friend Ryan Gordon and the company People Can Fly? I do remember screenshots released by Ryan long ago...

nanonyme, look up "Open Invention Network". This group does exactly what you mentioned.

Sorry to let you down but there is no mention anywhere about this game using OpenGL. Being that its built with the UT3 Engine I doubt they have an OpenGL client.
