That being said, i bet it would work for NBD devices or filesystem images for virtual machines on a networked share, since that shouldn't happen with them.
A million volts and some fjords might make a difference on this ex-filesystem.

I've not seen it ever create an improvement in anything. I've only seen it cause graphical corruption in Wine when playing Civ 4. Other than that i've never seen any effect at all with it.
