3 of the 4 screens I've tested on are running at 60Hz, I'm thinking now maybe I should use my cam corder to video the screen while I play a movie to show you all....
Ahh, OK that explains it, how irritating of ATI to have removed the overlay capabilities of their GPUs when we have no viable alternative, for the moment this effectively rules out any modern ATI...
Mmm I really haven't noticed the tearing on any of my screens, I've been using a couple of test scenes, there's a 150deg moving dolly pan 00:24:15 into Die Hard with a pension and a 320deg pan...
I think it probably would bother me, I don't get it with my r300 cards on my standard etch box and I don't think I get it on the r300s on my lenny HTPCs (they're new, I'll check later) does this...
Mmm that's 6.9.0-4

Lenny's on 6.9.0-1

I'll read up on what's crept in over...
Does it, what version of the driver are you using (or what distro & release)
One problem I have with my r300s (and I think the same limitation applies to r400 GPUs) is the max texture size is...
If you can find an r300 or r400 based card they work well now with the older radeon driver.

Actually the r400 stuff is...
And also what level of 3D you require. My
ATI Technologies Inc Radeon R350 [Radeon 9800 Pro]
and
ATI Technologies Inc Radeon R300 [Radeon 9500 Pro]
Both have more than enough grunt for 3D desktop...
Mainly, because either would be plenty powerful enough for my needs, so I can spend my money with whichever company I prefer and not reward the bullying behavior of Intel. Add to that the fact that...
Mmm, I knew it wasn't great but didn't realize it was that bad, maybe I'll see if I can find an x800 instead.
I'll be building a couple of new systems in the next month or so.
At the moment I'm planning on going for a Radeon x1050, it's an R300 chip so it has good open source 3D and 2D support already,...
That's very exciting, I wonder weather they'll be open source or propriety.
After posting I did some more reading round the gpgpu.org forums and found this thread...
I just found www.gpgpu.org and their not mentioning this on the forums there, I guess specifications aren't going to make a big difference to the world of General-Purpose computation on Graphics...
An even easer option for them would be to release Dave Arlied (and maybe others) from his original NDA, he could then make public the specs he has and we'd have working XvMC for r200 amongst other...
What are the chances of the specks enabling us to use the GPU for more general purpose processing? I frequently backup and compress whole harddrives of data, or transcode MPEG2 video captured from my...
