As long as they can produce results, who's to say they're not moving in the right direction?

Indeed -

Do the same test with nvidia drivers and there shouldn't be much difference between linux and windows. What you're seeing here is better drivers on windows. The intel guys are doing some good work to...
Hey, don't shoot the messenger! I'm just a man asking questions.
If the mir announcement was only a bluff, an elaborate ruse, a backhanded way to light a fire under the wayland/weston developers, to supercharge the pace of development?
Microsoft has never contributed any code to enhance or improve linux per se - their only contributions have been to enable captive linux instances under microsoft control. That is the only form in...
Same here. crossover office works OK, but it would be better to have native support.
I wouldn't count skype as it already existed for linux, and since microsoft bought skype they appear to have merely tolerated the existence the linux port, and have done nothing of interest with it....
Actually it doesn't have to be selected manually every time. KDE allows the user to specify window rules, such as "suspend compositing when openarena is running" which makes it automatic. Any gamer...
Agreed, this really needs to be made clear. I used kde 4.10 for gaming and find it quite snappy - but of course I have window rules that say e.g. "inhibit compositing when playing openarena" etc.
I'd think this would have a good chance of being mainlined. Google knows a thing or two about scaling the linux kernel and handling massive loads. Would love to see the benchmarks posted here.
Wow - looks like 9800GTX is the way to go right now. I know what's on my wish list.
The whole point of low jitter is low jitter. Running throughput benchmarks pretty much misses the point.
I've noticed that full screen opengl games hang. Specifically openarena in my case, but I've seen other opengl games mentioned in the bug reports. It's a shame because kde 4.9 is noticably snappier...
Ah yes, how could I forget how much fun it was to set up X11? Put on a pot of coffee, sit down with the monitor specs, and calculate the modelines. Those were the days!
Not SLES, but SLS (soft landing systems) in 1993. Back when men were men, and first thing after installing linux was to spend 2 weeks downloading stuff and fixing stuff.
Then this cool new distro...
"pc" generally means windoze - as in "openarea is available for pc, mac and linux"
It would be great if the drivers could be tested in gaming scenarios. I've a rather new Dell desktop with "Intel Corporation 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)" and I'm running...
Actually I haven't talked to anybody who thinks btrfs is a zfs clone, but be that as it may, I'm not telling oracle to discontinue zfs, it's their money to spend. The license is incompatible with GPL...
At one time Solaris zones, like dtrace, was a killer feature. But I've used openvz/PVC for some time and they seem to be as good or better than solaris zones. If oracle expends the effort to port the...
