(1) PulseAudio problems (in the process of being fixed)
I find that PulseAudio consumes too much CPU.
I had a basic PC (Athlon64 3200+) with Ubuntu 8.04 (using ALSA) that used 0%...
thank you Joker and Rabauke for the info.
I would also like to know this (SB having a dedicated video accelerator).
I see. Thank you for pointing that out.
Still, it remains the PHP compile test which I think must read many files from HDD to do the compilation which means many random reads. And on random reads...
Did you experienced this issue with the Thinkpad W510 ?

Also I find it strange that for the PHP compile, 7-Zip and GnuPG tests the Thinkpad...
How much work would this involve? Half of 3.x to 4.x ? Less, more ?
Thank you for the power tests. Could you also test with the close source gfx drivers (idle test + light internet browsing would be enough)? I'm curious about the differences (if there are any).
Maybe my question was not clear enough. I'm not interested in some "stuff". I'm interested in precise functionality like:

For Intel devs: what level of support can we expect regarding 2d, 3d, power saving, video accel. for Sandy Bridge ?
For AMD devs: same question regarding Bobcat (Ontario and Zacate), Llano and...
I agree here. For how long was this test run? 6 seconds or 10 minutes?
@deanjo: thank you for pointing that out, somehow I missed the ~40 idle number.
Some Power and Noise numbers would be nice.
I subscribe to the other posters asking for Power and Video playback tests (also some noise measurements would be nice).
I don't think ZFS was designed with this test in mind: one laptop hdd.
The test should be done with multiple hdd arrays (and maybe even mixed with some ssd).
Nevertheless, this test shows that ZFS...
Which is better: more work done into the foss driver or add a new check mark (tessellation) for their proprietary driver?
Myself I would prefer the first option.
I agree with you here. AMD cpu + video looks better and better now.
I think what's interesting here is that in case of Linux a C2D+dedicated video+4GB+15" consume less that Atom330+onboard video+2GB+12" !!!
Nice tests. Looking forward for the follow up.
For somebody looking for a medium PC configuration to run Linux on it, I found AX3 configuration to fit that role beautifully. It was on par with...
I think it's clear why we see so many Intels: people that buy Intel need to check performance / dollar to see if was worth it :)
....just joking.
