I personally think we've been invaded by aliens or something.
Oh, that again. Please stop repeating those completely fictitious performance figures.
GTX680 does 3.2TFlops@32 bit, 64 bit performance of GTX680 is very bad, a lot worse than HD7970.
EDIT: I...
Uncalled for. Apart from that he's pretty much spot on.
That sort of negates any usefulness glxinfo may have. That hack is, indeed, unbelievably stupid.
Nope. It's just wrong. A driver should never ever do something depending on process name. Possibly they should report ATI in any case - they obviously did not dare to change it on windows, why should...
I'm so happy for you. Please post that story in every thread in every ATI subforum here.
HD Video with fglrx is easy. There is a xvba backend for vaapi.
WIth a 7850, you'll have to use fglrx, which will probably suck badly with wine. In my experience it also kernel panics on shutdown.
So, do yourself a favor and buy nvidia, not least because most...
Sorry, that was a bit Offtopic.
Evergreen = R600, it works out of the box on ubuntu 12.04 with FOSS drivers, the only exception being HDMI Audio, as far as I could see.
And it's slow, of course.
X does all sorts of 70s stuff like drawing lines and circles. Nobody uses that anymore.
We're better off with the 3D hardware.
By benchmark I mean I watched a HD movie with xbmc and monitored the CPU load. Which is about 3 times that of the same setup using windows.
@bridgman: sounds reasonable. I only wish it would go...
Those things have certainly gotten much faster and very much harder to write a driver for.
That leads to the question if the present low manpower way in which the OSS driver is built is sustainable...
Your dates are probably more accurate than my memory. Anyway the first OSS driver was best, followed by the present OSS driver, which is good, if very slow sometimes. The first proprietary was...
In my memory the really old driver was fine, up to 2004 when ATI stopped giving information to DRI developers, as far as I know that was tungsten graphics back then.
The point where you write that...
I do hope you know that ESXi is headless save for some text mode basic configuration stuff.
Works well builtin in the current ubuntu (12.04).
Those numbers look wrong, too, since kepler has a 3:1 ratio of 32bit to 64bit. Indeed I found 3TFLOPS @ 32bit for kepler on the net. Indeed, Performance figures for the Tesla K10 card, which is...
0/10 points on the trollmeter.
