I also had to use "--resolution=0,1280x1024" in aticonfig to make it work properly.

So, the new driver is out. The performance with it is better, but not enough to say "good".

I just want my HD2600 AGP PRO to work properly.

Does this distribution has an opportunity to run latest fglrx with good performance?

It works. But with terrible performance...
Used vitalyb's xorg.conf as sample.
My Xorg.0.log is also similar to vitalyb's
I've to go back to radeonhd.
