The Radeon X1950 series was supposed starting with the December drivers. What errors do you have in your Xorg.0.log?
I recently got a Sapphire x1950 XT 256mb card but can't get any 3D support. I have always been a Suse user but I have also tried the 8.33.6 driver on FC6 - both with no luck. After following through with the driver installer Sax2 tells me the card is still on VESA, and for some reason the monitor has changed to "ati". Its kinda weird.
I got in touch with ATI/AMD and they gave me a really snappy "you will just have to wait for a driver and we offer no support" response. Furthermore the x1950 range isn't listed on the drivers page on the ATI site (when you click Drivers-Radeon-etc) - the top of the list is the x1900. Thus, I was surprised to read of people getting 3D support on even the 8.32.5 drivers. What am I doing wrong? I miss my nVidia card!![]()

Did you properly generate the Suse rpm and the install it?
If so open a console
Once in init 3, login as root and do this:Code:su modprobe fglrx ldconfig init 3
Code:aticonfig --initial --input=/etc/X11/xorg.conf sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx # Go back to graphic mode init 5
Thanks for the quick response guys. No errors seem to get thrown up... I tries following your suggestions but with no luck. The only thing I noticed when I did the aticonfig --iitial was that it stated
This is the relevant part of my xorg.conf:Found fglrx primary device section
Nothing to do, terminating.
ANy suggestions would be welcomed guys because this really has me beat.Section "Monitor"

Try
aticonfig --initial --force
If you do the command /sbin/lsmod | grep fglrx, does it shows that the fglrx module is loaded?
Can you show the content of all of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file?
Also,
Go in Yast/hardware/monitor and see if you can enable 3D from there.

Thanks guys... I tried out your suggestions.
Firstly, /sbin/lsmod | grep fglrx gives me this output:
Using aticonfig --initial --force I get a message confirming the backing up of xorg.conf etc and my xorg.cong file has been changed thus:fglrx 530136 9
agpgart 35528 2 fglrx,ati_agp
And yet, if I go into Sax2 (even after a restart) I still have my card listed as "Framebuffer Graphics", and my monitor as "ATI". I get some strange clipping effects. There 3D button is greyed. There seems to be a mismatch between what is in the xorg.conf device section and what Sax2 is displaying?# /.../

Open a command console and do this: glxinfo | grep direct .
If the reply to the above command is not direct rendering: Yes , since you specify that to use dri the user must be part of the video group, make sure your user is a member video group.
Add the following section:
And, in serction ServerFlags add the following line:Code:Section "Extensions" Option "Composite" "Disable" EndSection
Restart X and redo the command glxinfo | grep directCode:Option "AIGLX" "off"
Thanks Glussier. The response to the first part was direct rendering: Yes. I followed the rest of your instructions to produce:
But after restarting X everything is still the same. Any other ideas?# /.../

If the reply to direct rendering is yes, this means that everything is working.
Try fglrxinfo and post the results.
Also if fgl_glxgears shows a 3D rotating cube, this means that you are in business.
