Default Feature parity with Windows on the AMD driver?

I recall reading an article here where it was mentioned that we (Linux users) can expect "feature parity" with the Windows driver before long.
Am I mistaken in recalling that?
If not, how can this be?
The UVD hasn't even been touched or really seriously talked about much, as far as I've been able to determine. What about the DRM? How can AMD activate that feature in Linux without kernel support?

    Thanks,
    Will

    you recall correctly..

well.. i dont know what AMD has planned, but i see no reason it cannot be done.. remember, they do load a kernel module, a module which is free to do ALL the nasty things it wants..

It would require straying away from using some of the current X implementations but yes it could be done in a blob.
