    Default wine and 8.5 drivers

    Hi to all,

I read on one of the posts where 8.5 drivers are better for wine. Does this mean that wine works with 8.5??

Thanks kano, I gave it a try and wasn't even able to load the driver on ubuntu 8.04 and it screwed up the system files so I couldn't get the original 8.8 driver working. Luckily I've taken to backing up partitions so recovery was easy.

I'll just wait until ati fix it.

Backups are always a good idea, but take a look at some of the install guides that show you how to build installable Ubuntu .deb packages from the driver installer - I've had problems with straight uninstallations getting confused about some of the file redirections it's set up, but at least with a .deb (and the dpkg-divert command) you can be confident about your system's state

Oh, I see, I've seen this sort of dialog in the forums before, that is build a deb pkg, but I didn't understand why they did it.

Thanks grantek, I'll look into it.
