The person who started it complained about being stuck at OpenGL 1.4.
Eric Anholt stepped in and mentioned what the issue was, and provided a git repository to pull from: git://anongit.freedesktop.org/~anholt/mesa#965-occlusion-query
In the next message, he mentioned that it was easy to fix actually, and mentioned it was done, so now it will report 2.1.
As the recent purchaser of a G43-based motherboard, this is good news. Will this patch be included in a bugfix update of Mesa (hopefully to be backported to my distro), or would I have to wait until the next stable release to get it?
