    grantek, have you actually tried that driver version?

    EDIT: Never mind. I see your other posts. So Xv sort of works but still has problems, and opengl doesn't work at all. So how is this really different from previous versions?

    Well, the work's done to get the vsync/DRD stuff there for Xv (which is a non-trivial bit of work that would've taken quite some time), and this is using a prerelease driver, so it's just a matter of bug-hunting from here on.

    I'm sure "X11 output" didn't work with previous drivers, but to be honest I don't know what it actually is - sounds like it's not accelerated at all? If it's been working (on the CPU) all along I'm going to kick myself

    You really need shadowfb support (software rendering into a shadow frame buffer in system memory) or some specific optimizations to get decent playback with X11. The fglrx driver is designed to always run with hardware acceleration so AFAIK it has never included shadowfb support.

    You would be wrong :-) The x11 video output has worked fine with mplayer and vlc, under compiz, for as long as fglrx has supported AIGLX.
