I had a similar problem once and it ended up being the monitor itself. The DVI port on the monitor got busted and now I can only use normal VGA. But before you go blaiming the monitor I suggest you try with a different DVI cable first.
Hi guys,
I bought an LCD screen to replace an aging CRT.
My problem is the following : when I plug my LCD using a VGA -> DVI cable, the screen works.
If I plug the screen using a DVI -> DVI link (both cables were supplied with the screen), the screen stays blank. Nothing happens. It scans the various input, find nothing, and go to sleep mode.
I'm using a ATI 4870 with fglrx.
My question is simple : Do I need to activate something in the GFX driver to activate the DVI link rather than the VGA link ??
Both VGA and DVI are plugged on the same plug of the card, but perhaps is there something to do to activate DVI instead of default VGA ??
Or shall I consider that my DVI - DVI cable is broken in anyway.
It's the cable out of the box that came with the screen, and, as I had a CRT before, I don't know if it works or not. However, it seems very strange to me that a new cable could be broken.
Do you guys have made something special to connect your LCD using a DVI cable ?
Thanks a lot for your help

I had some strange problems when I made the switch from CRT to LCD recently - e.g. the LCD monitor wouldn't stay in sleep mode.
The problems went away after I blew away my ati config and reinstalled the driver whilst connected to the LCD.
Might work for you?
