It was not even two weeks ago that the NVIDIA 180.35 display driver was released for Linux, but yesterday NVIDIA decided to push out yet another update (they have been on a driver updating rampage this year). The NVIDIA 180.37 display driver as it's called brings a few fixes, improved recovery for certain types of GPU errors, and a few more VDPAU updates. Annoying broken signals bug in 180.35 FIXED, this release was a win for me, works like a charm.

Still has a SLI bug (one has to specify the sli type for it to work. The "SLI" "auto" doesn't work) but it looks like vdpau is rock solid now with pretty much any HD content thrown at it.
As far a the number of releases go, the nvidia guys have taken a release often, release early approach to maximize feedback on the official releases resulting in better bug reports being submitted and regressions being handled in a more timely fashion. The vdpau supporting projects have also been invaluable to them reporting issues with concise detailed bug reports and as a result we now have a stable HD acceleration after about 3 1/2 months of feverish development.

No, that is not what I mean at all. If there is anything that foss lives off of, it's paranoia and FUD. There is absolutely no real reason at all that open and closed can't live a harmonious existence when politics are put aside and communication is used instead of a constant pissing match of trying to force one party to change. When politics are dropped and a goal is set that is desirable for both parties and it's users, development can happen fast and quick without sacrificing quality. In a game of backstabbing, name calling and politic pushing their are no winners and the biggest loser is always the end user. Just because ATi doesnt know how to write drivers or release on time, it doesnt mean Nvidia is on a rampage.
