Phoronix: AMD Releases R700 Instruction Set Architecture
Back in January there was the release of the R600/700 3D documentation that is being used along with some open-source code to begin powering up the Radeon HD 2000/3000/4000 hardware with OpenGL acceleration support in Mesa. Some of this code should be out soon, but this past week AMD has released some more NDA-free documentation...

Don't forget power management![]()
Wow, that's great! Thanks AMD!![]()
I've been reading through it, and seems very well done.
Even beyond the obvious usefulness for FOSS driver programmers, it's nice simply to have good readable in-depth reading material about a modern GPU architecture (something which I've always had a vague idea about, but never really knew the details).
Thanks AMD!
Cheers AMD!
So in terms of those of us who have had the RV770 or similar (HD4xxx range) for some time now, - and suffered painfully with the closed-source fglrx driver (black screen of death madness), when would we see open-source drivers supporting fully accelerated 2d/3d within major distributions such as Fedora?
It'd be great to have video just work finally..![]()
