You're gonna run ALL of the tests or just part?
Even with part of the tests this seems to me like a gigant undertaking. Good luck, you're going to need it![]()
Phoronix: A Big Operating System Benchmark Comparison
Next month at Phoronix we intend to conduct a large benchmarking comparison of a few different operating systems. Right now we are looking at Ubuntu, Mac OS X (we will be waiting for 10.6 "Snow Leopard"), NetBSD, PC-BSD, OpenSolaris, and FreeBSD...

Sigh, still no Plan 9.....
Actually one thing I would kind of like to see is the wine benchmarks ran with the Linux Unified Kernel and see if there is any performance difference using it instead of wine.

- Solaris 10
Sure it is "old" at this point, but it's commercially supported. The latest spin supports ZFS installs.
It would also be interesting to compare to OpenSolaris.
- RHEL, SLES
Again, interesting to compare "supported" to "latest"
Hopefully run RHEL on "supported" hardware? Supposedly their kernels are only patched for hardware on their supported list.
If you pull this off with interesting results I will subscribe for sure.
I'd like to see Debian Testing included in the comparison![]()
Arch Linux.
(I appreciated your recent benchmarks)
Ideally you'd benchmark once Ubuntu 9.10 comes out too, as 9.04 is pretty old hat now
I wanna see
OS X 10.6
Ubuntu 9.10
Arch (updated)
Debian Testing (updated)
OpenSolaris
Please don't use the shitty intel graphics which would skew results in favour of OS X again.
I know this is a crazy lot to ask, but could you do the latest two versions of both OS X and Ubuntu? (10.5, 10.6; 9.04, 9.10)
Startup times would also be good to know.
