I'm about to build a budget system around this igp; I'll be getting the Asus board m4a785td-v evo , amd ii x2 250 with 4gb of ocz ddr3 1600. Hope the chip works as well as your review seems to indicate.
But, DDR2 RAM is expensive in comparison now. So, I'm trying to decide whether to keep my 2GB and also there is that DDR2 RAM 1066 MHz support issue with only 1 DIMM per channel supported. That's the speed I have.
I was wondering about the AHCI issue with the newer AMD boards, too. Is there any update on that as I can't find any more info on it and I haven't found much either (nothing specific or to answer my questions). I think there is something related to the SATA burst rate being poor?
Thanks for your reply, however!
I'm looking at a MSI 785G board anyway, though but it would be nice to find some info on the AHCI issue explained and figure out which RAM type I should go with (which really makes a difference in which boards one can consider).

Hi, I currently have an ECS GF8100VM-M5 NVIDIA nForce720a AM2 motherboard, I was wondering what is the best possible AM2 CPU I can put on this motherboard, it is currently using an AMD Phenom 9500 AM2 CPU.
I can find an AMD Phenom II 940 Black Edition AM2 CPU which looks pretty good, its clocked at 3ghz however I wanted to firstly make sure its compatible with my motherboard, and secondly is it the best possible upgrade for this socket type.
How considerable would be the performance increase?
Im using Hyper X DDR2 1066, ATI HD4870.
Benchmark estimates would be good
Thanks ocuk

Make sure the TDP of the CPU is <= 95W
