Thread: Does fglrx control the fan on card?

Default Does fglrx control the fan on card?

Does the driver control the fan on linux? Under windows games will cause the fan to spin up, but games under linux I get nothing. I mean I am only playing Urban Terror under linux which doesn't push too many polygons and the phoronix test suite won't work on Ubuntu so I can't try out Unigine...

Can't even use the aticonfig tool anymore to manually set it cause I guess ubuntu 9.10 xorg.conf is not what the tool expects. Card is a 4850.

You can use this to control the fan.

The BIOS/Firmware of the card controls the fan (just like in Windows.) If the card gets hotter, I can clearly hear the fan spinning up on my HD4870.
