    Unhappy 8.28.8 3D acceleration

    I have spent a week now trying to get 3d acceleration working, tried everything i can think of but glxgears gives me 250fps and OpenGL screensavers chug terribly (e.g. kcometen), yet everything *seems* to be installed correctly. Any ideas on what i might be doing wrong??

    I have a Mobility Radeon 9700, and I have tried the fglrx drivers from livna as well as from the Ati site but still no 3d acceleration

    any ideas??

    What is the output from fglrxinfo? Since you mentioned Livna, I take it you're using Fedora Core? Did you try using the package generator built into the official ati installer --buildpkg Fedora/FC5 ? Did you look at your xorg.0.log? Did you use aticonfig --initial? Did it work with the previous fglrx drivers? If you could provide more details, we can try to help out.

    Thanks for your quick reply and interest in my problem, it's really been bugging me and i have searched everywhere for a solution

    Yes Fedora Core 5.

    On older fglrx-8.26.18 drivers and kernel 2.6.17-1.2157 I was getting 3500 fps with glxgears, im not sure however if screensavers worked because i didnt try that then. When 8.27.10 came out, I upgraded but they slowed it down to 250fps and hence i went back to the old. Same goes for the 8.28.8 drivers with the latest 2.6.17-1.2174 kernel.

    I tried many things including replacing libGL files with older ones and playing around with xorg.cong with settings such as "UseInternalAGPGART" "no" but NOTHING changed.

    I reinstalled fedora core 5 recently, installed the kernel and latest drivers, but still the same, and right now I am on the official ati installer using the buildpkg command for FC5, everything installed nicely I must say, compared to when i use the automatic installation, but still slow performance in glxgears and in screensavers.

    fglrxinfo gives:

    I can't say that I am,
    Nexuiz seems to run smoothly, I tried to install games in cedega but i have problems running them, e.g. Red Faction would run, but I couldnt see anything, just a blank screen, but the sounds indicated it went through the intro and menu. (my friend has an nvidia, and glxgears, screensavers and games in cedega all run tip top)

    And screensavers such as kcometen, it first told me i was missing glu.h when I was compiling so i copied glu.h into /usr/lib, and after i was missing "-lGLU", so i copied libGLU.so into /usr/lib before it compiled, but then it runs slow. (it runs perfect in the small preview window for the screensaver)

    Is there anything you think I should try/test out?
