I didnt do benchmarks, but the performance drop must be really small. BFS patched or standard has much more effect on compile performance, i did not do much other things.
Hello, Phoronix!
This time I suggest much simpler testing:
Please test the following platforms/configurations:
32 bit 4GB RAM with PAE kernel
32 bit 4GB RAM with non PAE kernel
64 bit 4GB RAM
I'm asking that because numerous sources in the Internet claim that PAE affects performance very much and it's not wise to run 32 bit kernels with more that 3GB of RAM.

Linus begs to differ. He speaks about 25% performance drop.
Why don't you try it? 25% is a joke.
I don't have hardware (namely enough RAM) to test that.![]()

If you use "only" 4GB you dont see a big difference. Bench with 8 or 16Gb an you see big differences.
And BTW AMD64 is more as only more Ram.
Nille:
PAE is required to access all of 4GB of RAM in 32bit mode on a PC platform, thus it will have a performance impact.
I don't think testing a 8GB RAM configuration makes any sense - since most users nowadays have 2-4GB of RAM and run 32bit PAE or 64bit kernels.
I might do that. Since Im gonna buy the game anyway when it comes out, its not considered piracy
BTW, will the English version also come with extra goodies?
Benchmarks are coming.
