Phoronix test suite fails to start.

I'm trying to start the phoronix test suite via the CLI, but it responds with:

Could not start up.

It won't even provide help:

# phoronix-test-suite help
Could not start up.

Perhaps, the program could provide more information about the failure it has encountered? Maybe, mention where the error log file is.

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 RC and used aptitude to load the phoronix-test-suite 2.2.0 from your Ubuntu repository.

Hi Ken,

There is nothing in the Phoronix Test Suite that outputs "Could not start up" nor have I heard of a bug like this with PTS previously. Is PHP installed correct? i.e. can you php -v? If you extract this .tar.gz (http://www.phorogit.com/index.php?p=...e.git&dl=targz) and try running ./phoronix-test-suite system-info in there does it work? Does phoronix-test-suite system-info work on the system-wide install (if you only tried "help" and not any other options)?

State of system before the fix:

"php -v" returns nothing:

php (which php) = /usr/bin/php -> /etc/alternatives/php -> /usr/bin/php5

PHP packages installed are:

php5-cli
php5-common
php5-gd
php5-gtk2

Only modification of PHP configuration was adding "extension=php_gtk2.so" to /etc/php5/cli/php.ini.

Here's the fix which re-installs the PHP5 packages (except for php5-gtk2) and re-installs the phoronix-test-suite package:

I removed php5-cli which also removed (optionally) all the other php5 packages and phoronix-test-suite. Then I (re)installed php5-cli and phoronix-test-suite. "php -v" now generates reasonable output and phoronix-test-suite appears to be fully functional from the CLI. I don't need the GUI right now, so I omitted installation of php5-gtk2 and removed "extension=php_gtk2.so" from /etc/php5/cli/php.ini.
