Linux HD playback with Broadcom BCM70015

Hello Folks

Are there any Xorg drivers for media playback with this new card on the horizon?

Per the article below, the mini-pi-e card is quite popular on ebay to boost the flagging HD-libido for atom powered netbooks. But thats with Windows platform.

And then what about this one with Xorg? http://www.broadcom.com/products/Con...tions/BCM70012

This card opens the possibility of having a fanless atom HTPC that can do HD video.

It looks like one nettop linux distro supports it already. But I dont see any source .. http://www.jolicloud.com/product

The 70012 has working drivers for Linux. 70015 will probably come next. Source code may also be on the horizon. That solution is not perfect though, it requires decoded frames to be pulled back from the decoder and pushed into the GPU. A decode+display solution as available in AMD, Intel, NVIDIA chips is a better approach.

There is support for Broadcom chips in XBMC, though with older driver and firmware, from a user point-of-view. Developers have unreleased code.

If you plan a netbook or nettop purchase, prefer one with a decode+display solution like Intel US15W or NVIDIA ION.

yes i was, but i figured that, even if it was abandoned, that
due to the way that internet searches work, and archives being
"forever", even "old" discussions end up being picked up with
certain keyword searches, so i thought i would see if there was
anything out there that actually answered the person's
question. it turns out that yes, there is, and given that
nobody else had noticed those crystal_hd drivers from broadcom,
i thought i'd mention them, for the archive's sake if nothing
else.

yeahh, i know, but i'm a highly experienced linux kernel
developer and have been in free software for over 15 years.
so i apologise, i forget sometimes that other people might
not necessarily have the level of experience required to
bring older linux kernel code up-to-date.

excellent, thank you, that's really appreciated. i'll review
it carefully and will join in the (more up-to-date) discussions
if there's something that i can contribute, from my much varied
and highly specialised experience of dealing with Linux and
Free Software of the past 15 years on something close to 100
forums and mailing lists across the world.

so - would you be kind enough, droidhacker, to take the time to provide a link to discussions that you're hinting at that exist, instead of using the opportunity to "bash newbies"?

that having been said, i'm well aware of the deep joy of dealing with newbie arrivals (esp without announcement - one of the quirks of asperger's) - it can "jar" quite badly with expectations.

but surely you do _some_ kind of checking of who's joining? a quick google search on "lkcl" shows 19,000 hits, and "droidhacker" 21,000 - surely that gives you _some_ clue that i'm not some whining eemo hacker-wannabe??
