Yes and this is sad. I still prefer about ten year old games, but some new titles on Linux should attract more people.

Linux needs new titles which will be shipped simultaneously with the windows version in order to attract new players.

Prereleased AAA on linux would be ideal, linux version today, windows and consoles a few months later. But alas that ain't gonna happen.

Hell some of the "top games" don't even have a host anymore and are waiting for someone to collect the code and move it to another host but nobody has claimed it.

Perhaps that is the best point... we should be better at recognize all the interesting games that have come out in the last 5 years.

There did seem to be penny arcade, etc., ... perhaps it's all in what one considers "games"

I would like to see a list that weeds out point releases/branches as a new game (ex: Favoriteshootthemup 2008, tuxslipperyslopes, etc) and old titles (nethack anyone?). I bet if you do it year by year that list gets smaller and smaller with fewer and fewer Grade A titles. As far as Penny Arcade stuff goes, personally those are not anymore impressive then a flash game. Even world of goo could have been done in flash (or java alternatively).

Windows has so much games that it's impossible to evens tart counting them, but also countless crap titles.

While there are a lot of epic titles for Windows, you can play most of them under Wine.

For the newer games under Windows that don't have proper Wine support yet (read: the games of today) there are only a hanful of titles and the epic ones you can count on one hand.

So what Linux needs is a multiplayer FPS that owns. Just one killer multiplayer game is enough. And for single player we need a bunch of adventure games maybe but this is a niche, for all these games belong on a console with a wireless gamepad anyway...

We need a GoldenEye007 kind of multiplayer game for the pc (or Perfect Dark or the Timesplitters series). These were fun and revolutionary games all made by the same developpers (not studios). GoldenEye007 for the Nintendo64 kickstarted multiplayer games for the masses. GoldenEye007 was the best multiplayer first person shooter ever made. Everything about it was epic to the max. In the days of Quake2, GE007 made everything out there look like garbage on a console. The theme, the weapons, the gadgets, the gameplay, the music, the levels... everything was epic.

We need thát for Linux, right now. There's only one team of people who need to get together and do it.
