Request: Solo CPU tests on multi-core platform
It would be more interesting to add some solo CPU tests when benchmarking multi-core-CPUs.
It is today nearly impossible to see in benchmarks how fast is one core. The majority of cpu tasks are still single core today.
Here is an example:
Well we see how well povray renders on 8 cores. But how well it is with 1 thread, 2 threads, 12 threads (more threads than cores)? Are 8 threads ~8x faster than 1 (thus we can see the effectivity of this solution)?
It would be very interesting to have results for 1,2,4,6,8 threads for each processor. Not necessarily in all tests, but at least some (povray, h264, bzip2). They can surely fit into 1 chart.
What do you think?
There already many tests in PTS that are only single threaded and should give you an indication.

This is actually an interesting question, as it is the key to how efficient the multi-core implementation is. Linear speed up, if it's seen, would be a huge display, but I suspect it is going to be markedly less than linear.
