Is there any feature/stability comparison available between gnash and swfdec?

Having a look at the user manual, it says it uses ffmpeg, so I assume this is troublesome for distributions as any new media codecs cannot be plugged in without recompile?

Gnash can use Gstreamer or ffmpeg. It seems some features, such as webcam support, only work with Gstreamer.

Lots of folks use the --enable-gst (gstreamer) backend and then install gstreamer-ffmpeg.
