In X Server 1.8 a feature called xorg.conf.d support was introduced (is this also available in X.Org X Server 1.7.6?):
This is quite... summarized. Is there anymore information/documentation available? Examples about how to use it is also fine .To address HAL-like configuration files for configuring these input devices, what came about as its replacement in X Server 1.8 was xorg.conf.d support. Sections of configuration options normally housed in /etc/X11/xorg.conf can now be saved to file fragments within the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d directory.
